An Able PAK with Solar PV can provide even more cost savings at construction sites.
Realise a full return on investment plus $84,000 in net savings in 2 years with an Able PAK Battery Power System plus Solar PV at construction site offices.
Able PAK 066-066 or Able PAK 100-100 in their Microgrid running modes with Solar PV can deliver even more cost savings and Scope 1 emission reductions in user cases scenarios such as construction site office complex.
The Results:
- $106,000 fuel saving per year
- $84,000 net savings in two years
- Payback as a return on investment in just over one year
- 129T CO2 emission savings per year
The Scenario:
Consider a construction site using a diesel generator (137kVA) to power a temporary office building complex.
The power demand load during daylight activities is significantly different to that at nighttime, where security lights, fridges and idle power to computers are still drawing power.
During the nighttime, generators can be severely underloaded with the potential for incurring engine damage.
Savings are realized by having an Able PAK battery power system, such as a PAK 066-066, in Microgrid Mode coupled to a roof-top Solar PV and a smaller generator (Able GEN LG100CS), which provides the load when needed, in a fuel-efficient manner.
Six (6x) small (3mx6m) transportable office buildings can provide more 108m2 roof-top area, which can be suitable mounting platform of 18kW of Solar PV panels, without having to clear any extra land-area, or use up more construction area space. Able PAKs have built-in Solar PV inverters to suit up to 30kW of solar panels
Able PAK in Microgrid Mode with Solar PV:
This mode is a suitable selection when the total load at any time is less than the selected Able PAK prime power (kW).
In this mode the Solar PV provides the primary power supply and is supplemented by the Able PAK, which automatically starts and stops the diesel generator only as required to recharge the Able PAK when insufficient solar power is available.
The generators start and stops are triggered by and lower and upper State of Charge (SOC) of the Able PAK’s internal Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The Microgrid settings to maximise the BESS lifespan are commonly set to SOC 30% as a GEN start, and 85% for GEN stop. These settings are also adjustable to best suit the scenario and circumstances on hand.
The generator then only runs when needed to, at an optimum load setting, which is also a programable function within the Able PAK Energy Management System (EMS).
Benefits of the Able PAK Battery Power System:
- Cost savings that are expanded with Solar PV
- Reduced diesel fuel wastage on oversized generators
- Reduced generator damage from underloading
- Extend generator lifespan and service intervals.
- Reduced Scope 1 CO2 emissions
- Reduced noise pollution
